SMYRNA, GA — Another no-knock raid, another death

SMYRNA, GA — Dec. 18, 2020 — A recent drug raid conducted yesterday has resulted in the death of a suspect. An officer attending the raid “discharged a firearm,” killing a resident of the apartment being raided, and it is not currently known as to whether this was intentional or not. (This is a cue for the inevitable police response that someone “feared for their life.”)

No-knock raids have been under intense scrutiny after multiple people have been killed; adding to the ire of the public is that police agencies across the country have made mistakes such as failing to ensure that they are raiding the correct place.

Victims of police mistakes, including Breonna Taylor, paramedic subject to a wrong-address mistake, have been killed and almost no consequences were meted out to the officer(s) responsible for any errors.

When someone faces death so easily, and mistakes are readily committed without a second thought, then no-knock raids should be banned.
