Clip Art 2/28/2012: Hydroponics

Sprout in a glass Clip Art.  It takes a while, but sprouting plants in a glass of water teaches our next generation the value of patience!  The roots generally show up first and the seedling sprouts a week or two after the taproot establishes itself in the water glass.

I place my seedlings / sprouts in or near the kitchen window for the perfect light/dark balance.  Potting should be done shortly after the first sprouting takes place or when the tap root grows beyond the bottom of the glass.  Each plant has different growth speeds, so some research into how big of a starter pot you will need should be done – some plants have an incredibly long tap root – like beets, for example.
