Possible shooting near Sportsline Grill parking lot.

COBB COUNTY — 9/13/2011 — At approximately 9 pm on Tuesday, September 13th, 2011, I received notice of “twenty police cars” and five deaths.  I arrived on scene and discovered that it was a possible shooting.

The address for Sportsline Grill is:  2359 Windy Hill Rd SE, Marietta GA 30067.  I did a bit more digging and discovered a review page that indicates (from reviews left behind) that this place might be a Trouble Magnet (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sportsline-bar-and-grill-marietta).

The time was closing in on 2am when I arrived on-scene, and I counted between 14 and 17 Cobb County Police Department vehicles — I tried to count three times, but vehicles and people milling around / moving around made it difficult.  There were so many cars that they seemed to literally spill out of the lot, making traffic direction necessary.

I honestly thought that the person (unnamed per reporters’ rights) was exaggerating when it was stated that “blood is everywhere, five people have been killed, the police officer told me so.”  According to a dazed person on the scene, there were gunshots.  “I heard gunshots.” I asked how many, he stated he did not know.  Too many people were crying in the lot for a car wreck.  SWAT units had been deployed. Here is a link to the audio clip of the person stating that there were gunshots: There were gunshots

Captain Cohen, a white bald-headed officer, claimed command of the scene and stated that no information was to be released on his part.  “I cannot say anything.”

I tried to get some more information from another witness, but an officer demanded that I stop taking pictures of the scene and told me not to talk to anybody (too late) – he was not happy when I said that someone reported to me about hearing gunshots.  “You need to get out of here.”  Here is a link to that audio clip: Officer’s order to “get out of here”

Another man near the scene was worried about his cousin.  He had a “funny feeling” about showing up at Sportsline and decided to show up much later.

Since we’re on the heels of 9/11 – I found it very interesting that several would-be victims had these same hunches about trouble as would-be 9/11 victims reported having, showed up late, and lived.  This is a lesson that people need to pay attention to their gut feelings.  If something doesn’t seem “right,” then pay attention – there’s a reason why people have these feelings.  ’nuff said.

Good morning, and I wish you all a safe and happy day.
